My 566* Winey squash was a perfect gray/green up until... it started turning orange, so I'm (hopefully understandably) a bit disappointed. I would still like to to pursue a greenifying project on it in coming years, since I still like the genetics. However, aside from that, I would really like to have a classic old-time greenie seed from before the 848* line came about. In other words, a seed with little or no chance of going orange or throwing mutations. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just something decent. Does anybody have any recommendations as to what I should seed I should look for? Thanks!

the orange is caused by the sun, if you shade it, it wont turn orange

I would have to disagree on the sun causing a Green Squash to turn orange. I have always allowed my Green Squash to get direct sun when day time temps. are 70 degrees or below. I always cover them back up at night to hold the heat they gained in the day. The sun only makes a true Green Squash greener just as the sun makes an orange pumpkin oranger. Some pumpkins turn different colors as they mature just as some squash will turn different colors as they mature. Genetics have the biggest influence on color. That is my opinion. On the same token a Green Squash will turn orange or at least a portion of it if the Green Squash is BURNED by the sun.
