I grew a 469 Van Hook this year (1234 Wursten x 1450 Wallace) and pollinated two pumpkins on that plant with the 895 Hester (single male on each). The young fruit on the 469 started out very green, by day 30, they were lime green, eventually turning yellowish with a small amount of orange on the shoulders.

I planted one of the 469 x 895's and it's starting to vine, with some luck I will pollinate it and grow it to maybe day 25 or 30. Right now, the vine color leads me to believe that it will go squash but honestly, it's probably still too early to make that call. If it starts out and stays green for 30 days, would it be safe to say it's a squash? Wouldn't it be nice to know this year that I will either go with it next season or scrap the idea?!

I would be interested in hearing thoughts about this no matter how offensive they might be ;}.

Lets say its green at day 40 when you lose it to frost....who's to say they ALL go green?

IMHO you have a 50% chance for a greenie on every seed of that cross. But its not predictable which seed will grow a pumpkin and which a squash

lol...perhaps you should hope you get a pumpkin color....so your odds of a squash on the next one increase? !!...lol

at least 75% squash 13% squmkin and 12% pumpkin
The squash should be dark green the squmkin green shouldered and yellow body, the Pumpkin more to the orange with some green around the stem.
If you self it and plant that seed, most (95%) will be squash

Heck, if I could get an 848 or another 895, I wouldn't be reinventing the wheel...what was I thinking?! LOL. Thank you all.

With luck and a green offspring sibb a couple of the
offspring. Put a squash back to one odds will be on your
side. Then it will be a heavy to the chart, color game
some of the very dark blood line from Carlson/Peterson,
Gadberry lines and 800 Neily for size. Sounds great Wex

Glenn, he asked a question for which I gave him the probability's of the offspring.
Actually crossing with an 848 or 895 would be a mistake, something without the 900 lyons would be much better.
