I was wanting to know what seed would be your top one for squash this upcoming season ? A seed that will grow you a SQUASH , with no question of it being a squash or not.
Thanks

Probably try to get the 895 Hester to germinate and cross it back into the 1177 Haist.

I'm not so sure how dependable a greenie grower the 1196 will be as the pollinator was a pumpkin. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and plan on growing it this season and crossing it with the 1177 Haist.

I think if your looking for a dependable squash maker Jim gerhardt's 766 (1236 V/G x Self) and 871 (766 x Self) would do the trick.

Sorry should have been 1236 V/M not V/G.

Jos' 1196 was pollinated by a plant that grew a nice green fruit.

Oops, meant to say the pollinator was GROWN from a pumpkin. I've been trying to find info on the pollinator itself. Weight or photos from the pollinator? I can only find info on the 1196 and his 1581. Makes me feel better about planting it and getting a greenie.

Pollinator of 1196 Ghaye was a 905 Preis (833* Razo x sibb )The last two years I started 7 905 seeds and had 3 true green plants ( 684*dmg , 674*, one plant rotted midseason). Jos grew the 905 only for pollination not competition but he sent me a pic of the squash on that plant, doubtless a true green one ( and I have to confess nearly as big as my squashes this year lol). I can send that pic (bernhard.preis AT web.de). He wanted this pollinator to combine some 1231(from 947* Cuypers) and 1068 genes(from 833* Razo) in the 1196 Ghaye.

-Crossed on the progeny of a selfed 1129.5 Blalock, and an ott of several 1600 lbers out there, my patch $$ say this is all squash and will challenge most pumpkins on the scale come weighoff...and be green.
Genetically the 1486.6 is not mine, it's ours and the deck is stacked with a who's who in the squash world...(I just added the salt to the lobster pot, the good stuff was already there:)
All the best

Ned grew a 1082 on a small plant last year and it did well with little care. Had good color and was heavy.

If I grow this year, it will be a Squash.
It's not my choice which seed I will grow, depends on which seed my local competitor wants to challenge me with.

Hmmm I missed this discussion. We're growing the 1486.6 and the 1246.2 Vincent this year and crossing them forwards and reverse. 871 Gerhardts as backups.
