Subject: crossing squash with pumpkins,,whats the out come?

i rember when i got interested in squash and pumpkins in the 1998 area the word was to cross them to get thicker walls on the pumpkins,, everyone was doing it,,,you dont here much about it now days ,so what would you get if the female was squash and pollinator was a large pumpkin? could you get improvements or just lose the squash genetics what fruit is dominate ?

Here's a couple half bloods that I grew here in the south this year.
1051.5 Cantrell 9% heavy 891 Cantrell 23% heavy
Their mama's were heavy to the chart last year
