squash cracking seems to be the biggest problem,,is it the heat,, fertilizer,, water ect.. why do they crack so much easier then pumpkins? let get a good convo going since squash well be a BIG topic this next season

The best trick is growing a hubbard or no squash at all. Cracking is nothing specific to squash. It happens in pretty much every type of giant veg. Try carrots...

Brad is right, carrots will be a safe alternative...haven´t had any of my carrots split last year, whereas some pumpkins split. Don´t try Kohlrabi...even though they might appear closer to squash (in case of the greener varieties), they also have the nasty habit of developing splits and cracks.

naw i can handle pumpkin and squash ,, its just that squash seem to grow so tight and thick walled,, i here of alot cracking
