I can make a deep dark green fruit with long storability out of nice orange Cucurbita maxima as well as with C. pepo. I breed away orange skin in one year or one generation without crossbreeding. I do it with a virus, infecting the whole plant, so that it is not GMO. But this fruits aren´t sick. My fruits are true pumpkins, but this stupid rules of GPC would classify it as squashes. This plants produce carothenes for orange in the skin like plants with orange fruits do, but they produce much more luteins and zeaxanthins to let stay the fruit darkest green.

Oh, by the way: i have breeded little dark green beehive pumpkins too with a white dumpling out of the green turban. Wouldn´t this fruit fit to the Hamptons. Do you know Fred Schneider in South Hampton who is the singer of the B52s, the greatest beehive band of all ages and in the universe.
