Thinking for the 2015 WWGG contest I would like some ideas & suggestion. We will be splitting some of the contests this year in to 2 contests.
True Green Squash Novice
True Green Squash Seasoned Grower
My question is What would be the cut off weight? Please leave your responses here. Not looking to debate it. If you have a suggestion or dont want to go public with your input.please send to Mark@worldwidegiantgrowers.com example: Say its 1000 lbs.If your PB is under that your in the Novice contest. If over that your in the seasoned contest. However a confident newbie can join either contest. Please post the weight below you feel would be fair. Thank you Very Mulch!!
Again Not sure this contest should be split. There may not be enough growers to fill 2 contests. What is your thought?

Half the world record would be a good cut off here too.

Thanks Russ,Not getting any response on Squash. There are not that many squash growers so we might leave this one alone.

I think it would have to be half if you do it at all. I would leave it alone.

I think 800 lbs.would be good for this one, very few people have gotten over 1200 lbs.

I think a great idea for a contest is the combined weight of a growers best pumpkin & best squash. I think it would be a good way to lure some of the top pumpkin growers into the world of growing giant squash.

My 1352.5 or Pingrey's 1255 dmg that was pollinated with my 996 should both produce dark green fruit & are made up of solid, green squash genetics. Pingrey's was way ahead of mine when it developed a pin hole around august 15th. Either seed should give a good grower a chance to grow one of the world's biggest this year.

My seed is the 1362.5, not the 1352.5. I guess I should known that.

Those were both amazing fruit Vineman! I'm sure those two seeds are going to do very well!
Is it true there was a contest between you and Pingrey and after his went down he moved to a log cabin somewhere up in the lake taho area with that little dog and still sitting in that cabin wondering what could of been?

The problem with pushing the envelope is going too far or fast & then they fail. I know this probably better than anyone...except maybe Steve Daletas. The bigger they are, the more likely that they will develop a problem. Like Lincoln Mettler said 20 years ago, "If you're not blown' 'em, you're not growin' 'em!"

I think your idea for a Kin/squash award is a great idea.We can work on that for 2016 if you like.I dont know if I totally agree with the Blowing them growing them concept.I think there are solid Kins out there that cant be blown up if.Heres the big IF.There fed properly and the soil is right all the way through the growth periods.Time will tell if I am wrong.I will push my kins this summer like never before.Lets see how many I blow up?I will grow the 2323 Meier 1985 Miller,2036 Glasier,1947&1317&1768&1609 Clementz plus the 1625 Ganter and a Squash.I think that would be cool to add a True Green Squash plaque to my wall.

Wasn't there some talk about the "Big Enchilada" award last year for the biggest weight of a combined pumpkin and squash.. I don't think it ever happened unless I missed it. I think a green and orange striped blazer was mentioned :)
