Thought readers of this forum might be interested in my diary post. Hopefully I'll get a fruit all the way through the season so we can see what happens.

I think the "white" gene must be recessive because the 1844 fruit was not-at-all-white. So I'd predict that the fruit in question has a good chance of staying green. Even if the 750 Oliver was a white carrier (no way to know at this point) the odds of white are 1 in 4, maybe, for the offspring.

It looks nice and green so far. Fingers crossed!

Actually if the 750 was unlucky enough to be a carrier of white i think the odds of white offspring would be as high as 50%.

Gw x ww = 50% Gw and 50% ww, where G is green and w is white.

But if not a white carrier:

GG x ww = 100% Gw (green with hidden white gene)

Good, as I've been telling people who've had the seed that it has a 50/50 chance just to be safe. Thanks for the thoughts Scott.

It ended up a mix of cream and green in the end. Quite a lot of this 750 seed was grown this year and a majority of it went that way, I expected them to be either one or the other. Of the 20-30 I've seen grown I estimate around 10% stayed 100% green, and dark green at that too. Shame none of them were hand pollinated though. Might be of interest to anyone who's ended up growing squampkins the last few seasons.

I grew an 1807 this year, which is a selfed 1844. I selfed it, there was a time when I wasn't sure what was going to happen color wise. It ended up green and has gotten really dark since it's been in the sun

Mine would have developed a lovely dark green/slate grey colour had I let the sun get to it, but kept it covered right up to weigh off day so was weighed as a lime green colour.
