Hey, I guess this is a question for the Island Boyz or other West Coasters that don't get a wicked winter, how tall can I expect the fall rye to grow. Ive done cover crops in the past just never the rye and it is already getting thick and tall.

Thanks guys, with all this mild weather the rye has taken off and is like Dave's at about 2" tall.

Hi Glenn, mine's about 4-6 inches but the deer keep it mowed down pretty good. It usually takes off in the spring and depending on your drainage, etc., you should till it in as early as possible. I see in the long range forecast that there could be a week of dry weather next week. I may take advantage of that to spread my manure and leaves on the garden. It'll cover the fall rye but that will come poking through again by spring.

Thanks Jake, I wondered about adding manure/leaves/compost so you read my mind.

Have any of you grown comfry as a cover crop? I've heard that it supplies many beneficial nutrients in compost? I'm having a hard time finding seeds to test it out. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated
