            | lizzy565 | King,nc | Did a search and found lots of recipes using worm castings, manure, soil, kelp and molasses.
Does anyone use Comfrey in their compost tea?

            | LuluToo | Ellenville NY | Greetings --
lizzy565 I'm putting in a comfrey patch this year to supply my compost pile and to soak for a leach. Like you, I've been wondering if any AG growers are using it on their pumpkins.

 Anybody?

            | lizzy565 | King,nc | Not really. I used it on my pepper plants one year. Found out about it from a lady who was making potions and lotions form herbs.Comfrey tea is easy to make too.
Pull leaves before plants flower. Put in a bucket. (We use empty sheet rock buckets w lids) Cover with water and let sit.
Keep bucket covered because mosquitoes will find it.
Tea is ready when the stink is gone. (3 weeks to 1 month) You will know what I mean if you open the bucket before the tea is ready PEEEUU!
Measure 1 cup tea to 1 gal. water.

            | Tad12 | Seattle, WA | Haven't had a chance to play around with comfrey teas yet myself, but if you're not adding any compost (just comfrey) then it would be more of a nutrient tea (food for the microbes) rather than containing the microbes themselves. It just serves a slightly different purpose than compost tea.

            | Tad12 | Seattle, WA | I'll try and dig up a homemade recipe from Dr. Ingham to post next week. | 2/24/2008 1:50:31 PM |

            | croley bend | Williamsburg,KY | I will give comfrey a try this year also. I planted it years ago for compost additive, but for some reason havent really used it as a tea. Be carefull, some people get an alergic reaction to the leaves. Its wonderful to see people wanting to feed the soil instead of robbing it with chemicals.
