I made our CT brewer this week, and documented potions of it on our website. We used the OSU plans and information from Thad Starr to make it. Here is a link: http://www.fisher5.org/brewer.htm

wouldn't it be better if you unraveled the soaker hose?

Works great rolled up, as air diffuses the length of the hose. It was recommended to do this by another grower who has had success with it.

Thanks for posting this. I am in the process of building a very similar brewer, also with help from Thad. Mine will be slightly diferent. I am planing to use the PVC to cary the air and will attach the soaker hose to it. I also plan to have a short piece of the soaker hose suspended in the center, so I can fasten the tea bag on it and introduce air directly into the tea bag. I like the idea od creating a frame to hold down the soaker hose. I really wasn't sure yet how I was going to do this. I am using a 20 gal Rubbermaid garbage can with a lid and will put the PVC down threw the lid rather than threw the sides. This way you can remove the whole aperatus from the barrel for cleaning
I hope you don't mind but I posted your link on the GVGO message board.

My brewer is very similar to yours and it works great. I too got help from Thad on the majority of ideas but it was Stan Pugh who came up with the idea of using a pvc frame to hold down the soaker hose. http://bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryView.asp?season=2008&grower=27628&action=L CountyKid, none of the pvc pipe is glued together so the whole setup is easy to clean.

John (CountyKid),
My pipe is not glued (as mentioned on the page), so that I could easily take it apart for cleaning. Sounds like your brewer is a good one.

Interesting design! How do you plan on cleaning the soaker hose though?
I just finished a tradeshow in Vegas and was talking to the distributors of the pump and am going to try and see if it will work in our 5 gal. brewer, as I'm always looking for new pump options. This pump was a little noisier than I would have liked, but the specs on it and price are excellent. I'll let you know what I find out!
Good point on the not gluing the pipe. We do the same with our brewers to make it easier to clean.

Hey Dale...your tea maker looks terrific! A clone of Russ's and mine except that we used a 30 gallon barrell. I intend to hook up the soaker hose to my garen hose and flush it out that way.
