How can you get the cholorine out of the city water? I've looked at youtube videos and one guy said let the water just sit for about 24 hours?

Kinda ready to give this compost tea a shot this yr.
So from what I understand, take some worm castings, in a mushroom bag, and let it bubble for a day or so and then pour it on. And this takes care of most bugs and powdery mildew?

Letting it sit for 24 hours will work or you can run your pump for a few hours and that will speed up the process of getting the chlorine out.

ryan,, 1 or 5 gallon,, paint strainer bags,, are better ,, fer ,, holding the compost,, doing a cold brew here this season,, no pump,, but manually needs stirred and mixed daily,,,, the chlrine,, will aireate.. out of the water.. add a cup of peroxide,, and stir it in,, will, add oxygen

mix in a spoon or two of humic acid and let the pump run for an hour or so. Then add your tea bag and the rest.

Does your city use chlorine, or chloromine? Have read in the past that we are talking about two different critters here, and that chlorine will gas off, but chloromine will not!!! Hopefully someone in the know will help out here!!! Peace, Wayne

yes, that is true. You have a few options, which I can go into more detail on if anyone is dealing with chloramines, but the quick version is:
Removes Chloramines:
1. Organic matter
2. Humic acids
3. Ascorbic Acid

All have different Pros/Cons....

one way to tell if you have chloramine vs chlorine is to fill a white 5 gal bucket and check for a greenish tint to the water, this is also noticeable if you have white bathtub.

chloramine can be removed by super-chlorinating the water with pool sanitizer and then allowing to gas off.there are also chemicals that can be purchased at pet stores for removing chloramine from aquariums also filters.

Tad thanks for your help on this issue & here's a question for you. I use 50 gallon barrels for my watering but I have city water & chlorine. I have Neptunes Harvest 12% liquid humates & was wondering how much of the liquid humates per 50 gallon of water would get the chlorine out?

Chlorine will gas off by itself no need to add anything just let it sit a day.

Chlorine just naturally disapears on its own. I know!! I have a swimming pool and the sunnier and hotter it is the quicker it disappears. I fill 40 gallon barrels and let them sit in the sun for three days befor I use it for mixing and watering. This method also warms the water up which is an added bonus.!! That's likely over kill but I want to play it safe.
