Read on a diary today about some one brewing 100gallons of tea, and from lookin thru the diary, it looks like only one AG plant! Might be misleading, but if true? Could 100 gallons of compost tea go on one AG plant? Peace, Wayne

Ya Wayne, he's only got one plant. Judging by the looks of the plant I would say you can't overdo compost tea, his plant really seems to like what its getting. Hopefully a compost tea expert will chime in.

Your biggest concern with over application would be to over-water your plants. (assuming properly made aerated compost tea is being used).

However 100 gallons is a lot!

Industry rates are 20 gallons/acre of tea (you can add as little or as much water to that as you want) for soil drenches or turf applications, and 5 gallons/acre for foliar applications up to 5' in height (5 additional gallons for every 5' in height).

Oh, and in my opinion, it's much better to brew a small amount correctly (using sufficient air) than to try and brew a large amount if your air pump can't handle the load.

In smaller terms, you'll have a good product if you take a motor rated for 1 gallon of tea and brew that up and then add 4 gallons of water. However, if you were to try and brew up 5 gallons and not add water, you'll end up with an inferior quality compost tea. Make sense?

Tad, curious here....are there major acreage growers...that use compost tea? Do some large farmers brew 100's of gallons of tea, and mix it 4/1 and spray over large amounts of acres? btw, yes it makes sense!!! Peace, Wayne

Wayne,

There's farmers with 1000 gallon brewers on gigantic farms using it. Not sure what ratios they are using, but I could probably find out. Badger Mountain Vineyards out here in WA State uses the tea on their land, they've been doing it for years and have won numerous awards for their wine. I only work with a few farms, but it's not really our market. There's many other larger brewer makers out there that do though!

Here's a 500 gallon brewer....a little pricey though. There's a lawn and tree care company in my area that uses one of these and applies it to the trees, shrubs, and lawns.
