I had been planning on brewing 50 gallons of compost tea and spreading it on my patch to wake up the soil. However after doing some reading I'm concerned about establishing too much phosphorous in my soil. Too much phosphorous will delay the development of the mycorrhizae network. It seems it is better to have a phosphorous deficiency during the first 30 days of planting so the the mycorrhizae spreads out quickly. I'm still thinking of making a compost tea for my patch but will limit the ingredients to worm castings and molasses. Now I just need to find an economical way to keep the tank warm for the 24 hours of bacterial growth.

I have a large heating element with a thermostat that was made to heat large aquariums. It will not heat the water like a gas water heater but it will get the job done. The heating element on my unit is about a foot long and about the diameter of a nickle. I think I gave maybe $30 for it.

I have a heater we use to heat water quickly but it doesn't have a thermostat. I'll be off to TSC today to see what I can find. Thanks.
