How many square feet are you all using to get big pumpkins. I can do two plots at 687 or just cut it back to only one plant up to about 1000 SQ feet and not take over my entire yard ? Any thoughts would be very helpful. Thanks DG

If yer going all out, go for it in the one patch... maybe f yer just getting your feet wet, might wanna try 2 in the smaller space...good luck though...now is the time for planning

I'd grow two 687sq footer.You can grow a really big pumpkin with that size plant and I like having two barrels over one single bullet.If your goal is top 5 in the world then go with one plant. Just be willing to go pumpkinless some years.

Dave, go for 2. It can be done. John Butler grew 1175.6 and Joe Jutras grew 1109, each in only 150 square feet. I didn't say it is easy just possible.

I am a 3rd year grower. 1200 in 350 square feet. By no means up with the guys mentioned. But you can do 1200 in 600 feet, for sure.

Charleston-I did 1600 one time in 300 sq ft.and less pounds with larger plants. You never know, and like Cojoe said, better to increase your odds of finishing with two plants.

600 square feet per plant is fine, as long as you are able to take care of the plant for 6 months. I this year my 2183 was grown by less than 550 square feet.

My 1354 was in 400 sq feet, 600 is plenty!
