Hi, I have some Fertilome systemic tree fungicide, and it contains 1.47 Imidacloprid, and I want to use it for my Giant pumpkins but I don’t know how much to dilute it to. My plants are about 7-8 ft long with little to no secondaries. Is there anyone who would know how much I would need to dilute it to?

Baitman is right about the range but he's probably referencing the dose for Avid brand imidacloprid. Avid is only .15 % imidacloprid. What you have is 1.47 % which is 9.8 times the concentration of Avid. Using the application range baitman gave of 5.3 - 8 oz per 1000 sf, you only need .81 oz. Base on your 1.47% concentration I'm pretty sure I'm correct.

Batman is correct with the numbers. Those are the amounts that the late Steve Jepson (Tremor) posted and there was no one with more knowledge on the use of imidicloprid than Steve. Those amounts are for soil drench only.

Doesn't the number of gallons come into play or is it just assumed that everyone is referring to a 100 gallons?

I've posted the application specifics from the Imidacloprid label for both soil drenching and spraying on my diary page. Imidacloprid is offered in different forms and concentrations. The label was amended in 2014 as per the EPA document attached to it. It is specific to the 1.47 concentration. I think you'll find the answer your looking for in the document.

Regarding the importance of the number of gallons: 8 oz mixed with 10 gallons or 10,000 gallons is still only 8 oz assuming the contents of each is applied evenly over a given area. In this case 1000 sf. Eg. if you took a pound of rice, put it in a wheel barrel and dumped it in a swimming pool there'd be a pound of rice in the swimming pool - right? If instead you took a pound of rice and put it in a 10 yard dump truck and dumped in the same size pool you'd still have just a pound of rice in the pool - right?

Would I also water it where the leaves are not growing, like a 4 ft rim around the plant for all the roots? My foliage for each plant is probably only 25sq ft max...

If I did go with the 4 ft around foliage my sqft would be 70-100...

Imidacloprid can be absorbed by the leaves etc., and taken up by the roots. Just remember if your only going to spray 100 sf only use 1 tenth of the dose and spray it evenly. You'll probably want to water a little after a couple of days to get it down into the soil. The brand I use (Avid) is a milky white liquid and if left in your spray equipment will gum it up so make sure you rinse your sprayer out when your done. I'll send the PDF.

Avid is not imidacloprid and is listed as 2% Abamectin

For imidacloprid and many other ingredients, you could use so little water that it doesn't reach the roots or so much water (extreme amounts)that much of it will flush of itself out of the root zone.

For the past 5 years, I have used one TBSP of 75% imidacloprid if the plant size is 450 sqft or larger (in June), with Merit costing too much so I use an off-brand. I add it to 10 gallons of water and apply it to an area about 10 feet wide in a doughnut shape missing the direct stump location. I apply the 75% to my container plants for seed corn maggots using under 1/2 tsp for 2-4 gallon size bags, and then again when the plant is about 5 feet long using about 1 tsp of 75% product. I haven't had an SVB problem doing it this way

I have used 75wsp at 1/8th teaspoon per gallon along with Talstar (Bifen IT)at .5 ounce per gallon for over a decade for SVB and cuke beetles with no issues. I use these in a mist blower every 7-10 days and spray leaves until drip. When 3000 square foot patch is full I use around 6 gallons total of spray.

This entire thread I was thinking of Avid and controlling aphids. LOL a sign of old age I guess. Sorry for the confusion.

Now I have a question regarding applying Imidacloprid to the soil: If you inoculate your bury dirt with Mycos will the imidacloprid applied to the soil effect it??

Baitman, I think somthing doesn’t make sense to me… if I divide your 75 percent by 1.74, I get 51 tsp of my product… which is 17 tbsp. That feels like a lot….

Even more-interesting reading:

If I were stranded on an island and the only weigh off of it (lol) was to grow a giant pumpkin and Go Sail Away in it and had giant cucumber beetles to contend with and a bottle of the stuff you have, Sankalp, I would theorize that in reading the LABEL, it says pretty much to use 1 ounce of it (2 TBSP) per gallon of water applied blah, blah, blah, around the base of the tree at so many weeks beforehand, etc.;

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII use the first product in the first link below as my cuke beetles' day wrecker
and THAT is at .72% (HALF of yours) and is dosed at 1 TBSP (1/2 ounce) per gallon of H2O;

Insofar, if my Ferti-Lome product has 1.47% on my Island of Doom, I would simply do

one TBSP per TWO GALLONS of H2O

and just water the plant with it - just the plant, maybe once a month, like I did in 2020 and never think twice about it, on my 2003 Haist and all others, always;

Once the plant is full-sized the cukes are no longer DEVASTATING but could still carry Bacterial Wilt to your plants and destroy them that way.

'The Stuff' kills cuke beetles on contact, when they eat or suck juice out of your plants (as well as Squash Bugs, by the next day) and apparently through the soil and roots, although I have not used it for the SOIL in many years.
IDC, I've seen it work on contact.
Period.
Now, grow some Whoppers!

Sankalp, using 1.47% requires a lot more because it's so weak. Cost wise, you are better off using Dominion, which is 21.4% Imidacloprid

Sorry for the late reply, but I wanted to say I don’t get cucumber Beatles lol. I mainly want to use it for mites and aphids because we also don’t have vine bores.
