I know watermelon growers really focus on the shape of the melon before pollination. Has anyone notice any correlations between the unpollinated pumpkin and the final mature pumpkin? Shape is my main wonder. I have two females just one node apart. One is a round shape. The other much more long. Will these shapes go through to the pollinated mature pumpkin?

I have seen that scenario occur on more then a couple of plants where one set is longer shaped and one rounder. I typically like to choose the rounder if the cross is correct and the lines clean and symmetrical. The round have turned out to be rounder mature pumpkins.

I think so. But I think its hard to know which would actually weigh more. Nobody else seems to care about sepals... but out of curiosity how many of the little green spikes does each have?
