How much is your vine burying also weed burying? Or, are those totally separate & unrelated issues for you guys?

I know I'll get push back from this but, I use shields and roundup around my whole plant and know many heavy hitters that do the same. I use 1\2 formula and spray just light enough to hit the weeds and not the dirt. I've been doing it for years with great success once taught about it.

Trust me, it makes me sketch also but my back loves me for it!:)
I only do this once or twice the whole season.

And never near my veggie garden!

I definitely buried a few weeds but I made an effort to move the vine over and take a hoop hoe and remove the weeds before I buried them. I also used the hoe to break up the soil a little more where I planned to bury. Now I'm using it to get the weeds between the vines. Admittedly, I've accidently hacked a couple of leaves off with it but I think it's the perfect weeding tool for my soil. It works best when it's just a little damp.

My patch is relatively weed free. I just pull any weeds when their young and never let anything seed out.

we do a full weed every week. Love a tool called the circle hoe. Best tool ever invented for weeding pumpkins and not hurting them.

I weed early in the season when the sprouts are so small, I can pinch them out. If I see them when vine burying, I pinch them out but have done very little weeding since the patch filled out.

We hand weed (hoe, matchet, whatever works) ahead of our vines and bury/top dress like most growers here to take advantage of all the additional aggressive rooting that these plants will do.

We do see growers that grow “free style” and don’t weed, don’t bury vines, don’t top vines with compost and in those cases, you better leave all your tendrils on so that they can attach to the weeds and the vines will be less likely to get blown over in the wind because they aren’t adequately secured with roots and soil.

My vines root themselves and choke out the weeds...lol.

Actually that kind of happened last year with my FP's. At the time I didn't even know vines could root until I tried to move one and couldn't even after cutting the tendrils. Naturally I don't have anything to remove large amounts of sod yet.
