I'm looking for suggestions on heavy duty soil heating cables and thermostats that will run on 120v? Anybody that has used a specific brand that lasts more than a year or two. I'm looking to heat a larger area than the box store 48' cables will do. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Use ice dam cables.

Wile, I was looking into the gutter ice dam cables. They appear to be much much heavier duty and are available in many lengths, but it appears that they are self regulated to turn on around freezing and turn off around 50 degrees. Is there a specific style you were talking about I didn't see that wont turn off at 50 degrees, so that I could use with a separate thermostat in the soil?

have used VineHeat 30 Ft De-Icing Cable for Roofs, Gutters and Downspouts: 120 V from Amazon. Thermostat is not needed they only get about 85 degrees. I run them on a timer. First day for 24-48hours which brings the soil to temp. Next couple of weeks for 12 hours a day. Following week down to 8 hours and after about 4 hours a day until I turn them off.

I use the roof de-icing cables with a heat mat type thermostat. I have 80'cable [for 2 plants] hooked up to it and it works great.

DKrus, thanks for the reply, do you know if your roof de-icing cables are the constant wattage style or the self regulated style. I’ve been reading and I believe I’m looking for the constant wattage with a thermostat with a soil probe like you suggested.

I believe they are constant wattage. I pick them up on ebay a few years ago fairly inexpensive.
