Question for the group here: I've got two pumpkins growing on a single plant and trying to understand the risks/benefits of the timing of harvesting them. The big one is ~1,100 lbs on the main vine, at 78 dap, will be picked at 93 dap. The second is around 550 lbs at 72 dap on an early secondary, scheduled to be picked at 95 dap. My main concern, is if I cut the main pumpkin 9 days before the smaller one, will I have the advantage of late season gains as the smaller pumpkin becomes the primary sink, or will I have the hazards of late season splits, for the same reason?

To add another variable, the smaller kin was treated with florel after pollination, so in theory should be more capable of absorbing late growth, although with an N of one, it's probably a coin toss, but interested to hear any opinions!

I don't think it will matter at this point in the season. It is the days old that really determine how fast a pumpkin will be able to grow. Expecting a 72 day old pumpkin to start growing like a 30 day old one is sort of like trying to train a 75 year old man to dunk a basketball. LOL

Thanks guys! That's about what I figured, especially since they're only adding 12-15 lbs/day between them, just wanted to get an experienced opinion.

Andy, you may be interested to know, this plant is from the 1157 Zachykowsky, which I believe is your 575 selfed. It's giving me some big orange pumpkins!
