We’ve been having great summer weather here in the PNW. One local grower tells me that this is the best pumpkin growing summer weather he has ever seen here. How has the weather been where you are? Some long-time growers say that the area with the best weather will have the biggest pumpkins!

Same here Russ in our corner of the Pacific Northwest, it’s been a pretty stellar spring and summer. I’m no further ahead than usual, but another guy is!!

We've had a tough summer also and I'm glad I took the year off. That being said, i know of a few personal bests being grown down here so maybe the cooler and cloudy weather isn't all that bad.

Who is that masked man northshore?:) If I can grow anything close to his next year I'll be one happy grower!

It often seems like The country is like a see saw, when the west coast is getting good weather we are getting the opposite. When we have great weather they have crumby.

We in Spain, in line with the last few years, so we have no excuse. The last 16 days, more than 36-38C, the last 5 days 40C, tomorrow, and after 42 C.

They should be about 108F, and inside the greenhouse about 122F. We have had 4 waves of strong heat, in each wave, the pumpkins crack, because they do not assimilate calcium. But it's no excuse, everyone must prepare for their climate. The easy thing is to say that we have had bad temperatures. I also had them with the past years and I got better records.. I firmly believe that the genetics of each climate is the best. There are seeds that work better in temperate climates and others better in hot and humid climates, but the essential thing is to know or be able to cushion that extreme climate. Those who grow in Canada or Alaska, for me are heroes.

Certainly not here in this part of eastern Canada since May. Mother Nature will not turn off the tap and now hearing Hurricanes are starting to churn up. Good luck folks.

I have no idea how Ruben grows 2500 pound pumpkins in 122 degree weather! Talk about someone who's prepared!

Like Kevin just said above me, no excuses and make your best environment you can and deal with making the perfect spot to grow the best fruit you can. We may not all be able to have a greenhouse like the Patons but we can come pretty darn close.:)

I feel for Jake's weather, he is experiencing the deep south experience. We are topping out at about 97, but Kansas is over 105, that is crazy. My garden is 97% humidity as I type this. I think Jake had 97% yesterday. People ask me what our humidity is like, and I tell people that is like taking a shower and then getting dressed without drying off first.

Richmond Dave brings up a great example, we woke up this morning to 53 degrees outside. A pretty chilly near the end of August temperature, I bet it was a nice steamy 72 degrees or better in Dave’s greenhouse this morning and overnight.

Its better than a steamy 72 on a cloudy day. In fact a couple of days ago when we got no sun due the smoke from the forest fires it was a balmy 83. One of the most important functions of a greenhouse is to keep the soil temperatures higher. Right now its a staedy 67 all day long.

Indiana weather is probably the biggest reason we're only now on the verge of getting 2000lb in this state. The temp swings are pretty gnarly. We've had a somewhat mild summer except for a couple 'heat waves' where the index was in the lower 100's. The nights tend to be cooler which slows the growth.
