With the crazy and not so pumpkin friendly weather we have had this year in New England, will the weigh offs have less entries and smaller pumpkins? I am a first time grower.
Just wondering if a 750 lber is a legitimate one for the weather we have had. It's only 8 1/2 feet or so on the main vine with only 12 side vines.

There will for sure be big ones in New England...now how big nobody knows until they hit the scale!

Take it... You'll have fun, and maybe earn some gas money.

750 is a great size to bring to a weigh off, especially being your first year!
There's a really good rumer a guy just below you has a pumpkin just under 2000 pounds and the plant is only 450 sq ft.

I hope this rumor is true!:)

Bring your fruit to the weigh off, its a great place to meet new growers and see some really big pumpkins. Weigh off days are some of my favorite days of the year, with or without a pumpkin!

I think this goes for most of us addicts! ;)

Bring your pumpkin and have fun!

S0.Cal.Grower..... if he is from Ct I think I know who you mean. He has been very helpful to me. And thank you for responding. I'm definitely going. Question: I lost quite a few leaves to PM so I have let a few tertiaries grow to get more leaves to feed it. Do you think it will help at all?

I think I know who you're talking about, but the guy I'm talking about ( also very helpful with growers and has been for 30 years ) is in RI.
I'm sure you know him.:)

Keep growing those leaves, make sure to stay on the PM and yes, this will help.

This is an exciting time of year! I can't wait to see what your pumpkin weighs!

Will do. Do you have one growing and how is it doing?

I'm taking my first year off in 15 years and letting the soil rest while growing cover crops.

My disease issues just became to much. You can see in my last years diary how frustrating it can be.

How do you post a pic. Can’t find a way

Go to growers diary on home page and start a diary. Picture has to less than 4MBs. When you add to your diary it will take you to your computer so you can choose what picture file. Add your comments and then hit submit. It will take a few secs(can be slow) for the entry to upload so do not hit again unless you are really sure it did not submit. From cell phones picture often posts sideways
If you are not a premium member it can take a few days for the entry to show.
There is also a photo page option
