I’ve seen lots of discussion around the optimal sq/ft an AG needs but what have people found to be the best ratio length x width? I have some open field options for next year and wondering if there is a good rule of thumb.

Yes, but any input on length vs. width? Square or rectangular? If rectangular, long side along main vine? Just curious what ratios people prefer if at all.

I always tell myself the diamond pattern makes sense, but then I never do it. If I ever did it, then I'd go with a square shape, and the plant would be planted at one of the corners.
The patch shape/size you want might be affected by your drip line layout, or your overhead irrigation coverage but of course it would be nice to know the perfect dimensions.

I personally like a wider plant (40 x 35), shape and pattern in my opinion isn't important its about health and size. Especially around pollination time. I also believe that you should have enough plant growing up to day 50. The fresh growth may cost a few pounds early but carry a better growth curve at days 70-90.

really depends on vine pattern, I prefer a little wider plant, but in the end mine are pretty sqaure.
