I think I made it out of the heat wave fairly well, but now there's a chance of large hail. Since the warning is for a night time storm, I was thinking of laying some light tarps over the top of my plants then removing them in the early morning. The trade off could be broken stalks and or plants beat to death with tarps flapping in the wind. So it's the "chance" of hail and heavy wind out in the open, vs. the 'chance of hail" and heavy wind covered with leaf beaters. I do have 4 ft wind barriers around my patch, but even those only go so far in extreme conditions. Anyone ever cover up for a chance of hail, or should I just ride the lightning, so to speak?

If your wind barriers are like the black silt fence we see all the time drooping already around pumpkin patches, then maybe your option is to use them or similar multi-purposed and draped loosely over your areas of concern. Else, shade cloth, etc., etc...like the first attempt at putting a top sheet onto a bed...I have not done any of the plant protection other than 8'L X 6'H wooden fencing for many years and the Big Hail Storm happened here in like mid-May, butt another could happen. Good luck on getting better repsonses - eg
