As some of you might have read under "No Clue" and for those who are not familiar with that passage. I lost a 275 lb pumpkin at 22 DAP recently. When inspecting the inner pumpkin there was no issues and the seeds were like the ones you would have at the end of the season (color, shape & size). Now are these seeds able to be dried and be used for future growing efforts? Thank you for your responses!

Typically you need 40 days to get good seeds from any fruit. You could dry them and see if there any good ones. Opening a few seeds would indicate if they have developed enough to sprout.

From digging through old posts I believe most suggest DAP 40 for viable seeds, in some cases you can pick a few out DAP 35. You can dry down your seeds, more than likely you will find them to dry out extremely thin, brittle without enough meat to get a plant started. That being said try it, have fun with it. Then report back your research. In all honesty, next winter seed auctions hosted on BigPumpkins.com provide an amazing opportunity to secure the best seeds on the planet, from reliable sources and more importantly supporting the grower associations around the globe. Many of them take a tremendous amount of effort to provide a very wide range of genetics, some include great photos. I am new myself, I am sure others have information that could provide useful. I grew my personal best from a 200 lb seed. My own cross. Great genetics cross but Size really doesn't matter,,,,good genes... as long as seeds are viable, Dry them ...see if they sprout as a germination test. Plant it!!!!

Should have added kin stopped growing about 30 dap. left it on plant for 10 days.

If you want seeds then wait as long as possible to open it (basically at the first sign of rot) so that the seeds have a chance to absorb nutrients from the kin. Most will be duds but there can be a few viable ones. I've germinated seeds from a 30 day kin but the kin was kept dry in the shade for a month post harvest. Generally 30 days is too early.

Edit: I guess you already opened the kin. I would be very surprised if any of the seeds were filled. They can appear good at first but the outside appearance doesn't matter! The embryo inside is what matters.

If you can set another kin on the plant before mid August, you might be able to get seeds via that route. After mid August, they dont seem to have the time or temps needed to mature, in my experience.
