. I am fairly new here. The stem on my big pumpkin is splitting. Any ideas? Thank you in advance for any input.

Normal, it should be ok unless its headed down into the pumpkin. If so, make small splits on either side of the main split? A number of small splits is preferable over one big split? I did this last year & it worked great but I have seen differing opinions about it. Pics would be good.

Good pics of your splits would be great. Which end a split comes from makes a difference plus is it surface cracking. Had both this year.

Cracking on the surface is scary for new growers. Splitting is the term used when the crack goes at least into the middle of the stem. Do you have a crack or a split.

Right now both my plants are running on split main vines. One of them is actually split between four leaf nodes in a row. The other has a single split in the main. All healed up with nothing but hot sun. I just yesterday scraped some gunk off the 4 splitter, treated it with Zerotol, and put a fan on it. I'll post a photo tomorrow you can look at. I expect the splits will last the season with no problem. I

Thats very helpful to me too, cojoe. Splitting vs cracking, an important distinction to make.

It would be more like cracking.

You should be fine. Several pics in my diary with splits and cracking.
