Well our auctions are over already this year. I requested seeds from Mr. Dale Marshall up in Alaska at the end of November and just received them today. The bubble went from Anchorage, Alaska to Des Moines, Iowa on a 4 time round trip then eventually to my house in Bloomfield, Iowa. Figures out to be a little over 25,750 miles. You talk about efficiency and a good deal for $6.05 in postage! It's amazing. No damage to the seeds. :(

Yup sometimes you wonder about our postal services. One time we sent an order to Moscow, Idaho regular Air Mail, the order was returned months later after it was in Moscow, Russia. I'm surprised it even got through customs let alone not destroyed??? WOW.

Time to privatize the USPS? It's being discussed again.

Does anyone know how they damage seeds in bubble envelopes.Ive been told they dont use rollers.Do they use conveyer belts or just pile boxes on top of the bubble packs.Or do they do a seed/rain dance on them when they see a fragile sticker.

Joe I would guess boxes being "thrown" in the bins or carts where the bubbles are. It's all thrown together on the 1st class packages whether it's a bubble or a box. 1st class packages don't go through the rollers or machines.

The USPS handles 318 million pieces of mail every day. I know that the problems above are ridiculous sounding but in a system so immense, outliers are bound to happen. I was recently in Ecuador and they have abolished their post office. Talk about delayed deliveries and expense when people have to privately pay to get a package from one place to another. Any system, private or public, that handles 318 million pieces a day is going to have a few crazy sounding examples of 'inefficiency' but I'd wager a private postal service will cost a lot, lot more. Fifteen dollars to send a bubble? More?
