You may know that last years winner (Tom Trombley) placed in the top 10 for all of his master gardener entries, except Atlantic Giants where he placed 37th. Let's break down these stats further.

That 37th place was enough to place him in the top 2.2% of all growers. And perhaps this is the stat that is most impressive, as you can see next, he ranked in the top 3% in all 5 of his master gardener entries:

Percentile rank he reached for the other categories he entered:

Field kin 0.0% (1st place)
Bushel gourd 1.5%
Tomato 1.9%
Marrow 3.0%

Is it difficult/improbable that you could have a season that good? Well, yes. But for those who like a challenge, this is where the bar is set highest.

A feat to admire, and one work towards.

Thanks for that analysis Brandon! It still blows my mind that things ended up working as well as they did. I had a plan, and some experience in each category to fall back on, but there’s no doubt that good luck played a huge role in it as well. I also thought Cindy’s world record score was going to stand for a lot longer, but as the weights in most categories continue to rise, I’m sure we’ll see 300 points in the not so distant future.
