I have donated a watermelon lifting ring for Susan Barber to be auctioned off in the GWG auction. Pictures of this ring can be seen in my diary no see(Lee) I have weigth tested this ring lifting a 500 lb piece of drill steel and have rated the lifting ring for 800 lbs. The straps are 1" tubular nylon rated for 4,200 lbs. There are 6 straps, 3 on either side and 2 on the end totaling 8 straps. The ring is make of the same rings I use in my 40" Monster ring and 13" pumpkin lifting rings. Any feed back as to how I could make a better melon lifting ring would be appreciated. One idea I have considered is using 1 3/4" straps and adjustable buckles just as I do with pumpkin lifing rings. This would support the melon with a wider strap and make adjustments easier. http://www.trifive.com/forums/album.php?albumid=5151&pictureid=47657
