I bought 2 packages of Burpee's Carolina Cross seeds. I cannot get them to leaf out. I used the damp paper towel and baggie method and direct sow in a mound. Maybe its just Indiana soil, but I can never get melons to grow. Is there anything I may be doing wrong or could try to get them to grow?

Hi Ryan, They can be tricky. It's hard to say what is going on.
Here is what they need to germinate.
Warm soil. Preferably 85-95 degrees. The warmer it is the faster they will germinate.
Soil that is moist but not wet. They will surely rot if the soil is too wet. (if you can squeeze water out of the growing media with your hands, it is too wet. )
If you can get those two things down, the seeds should sprout for you. If you need seed I can send you out a bunch to practice with. They are way better quality than the ones Burpee sells. It makes all the difference to get competition seed from other growers.

Ok thanks alot. Ill try my best. I planted 2 weeks ago, and nothing. I got cage around them cause of the squirrels. Lol. I water them when atleast 2 inches of dirt is dry. If you dont mind sending me seeds, i'll give it a shot. I can never get watermelon to grow. I even mixed sand in one area to see if that made a difference. Tried different root stims and nothing. Frustrating.
