This is my first year on this website, and third year as a grower. I have been using Bonide "Eight" for most insects, and this product quickly eradicates any squash bugs. However, despite its advertised ability to control aphids, the aphids always begin a takeover sometime in July, gradually leading to the end of my garden. The aphids began showing up this week. Does anyone have a sure-fire product or method for eradicating aphids?

In your diary,I could not tell if you have anything under your melons. If you let them grow on dirt you are taking a chance they may rot.

There is a barrier beneath the melons, but I'm going to switch to something more appropriate for 2015.

Also, I plan to plant them a bit further apart next year. While we were on vacation in early July, the situation became unmanageable with interwoven vines and tall grass. At this point, the best that I can do is knock the top of the grass down to the height of the melon leaves. I quickly came to the conclusion that any attempt to uproot the grass would destroy the vines.
