Subject: Vine growing direction

Hi, just interested to know if the same rule applies to water melons as it does to pumpkins. That is, dose the vine grow in the opposite direction to the first true leaf as they do in pumpkins? Cheers.

I believe they are the same but some more veteran melon growers would really know for sure. I do know the plant vine is much much more forgiving when it comes to redirecting them in the early growth stage. Good Luck down there! Let us know how yer doin.

melons don't seem to follow that rule. Mine seem to go for the sun, south ! as long as it doesn't go 180 degrees from where you want, you should be able to SLOWLY turn it to where you want it to go.

Ok, interesting, thought they might of been the same, might have to plant it at a 90 degree angle just to make sure unless like you mentioned, some veteran growers might be able to help out. Won't be planting for about another week of so yet.
