What temps are right for growing watermelon. Is 90 degrees ok is 120 to hot? Should I cover the watermelon at night is temps will be less than 70 degrees F.

When I grew my 260 the melon was doing 6-7 lbs a day at peak growth in the low 90s.When the temps went over 95 my weights dropped to 4-5 lbs a day. Then went back up when temps dropped.I believe melons slow down over 95 degrees & dont like nights below 55 degrees.Nights in the 60s & up are best.I keep a sheet on fruit at all times to shade it.I dont think keeping the fruit warm does a whole lot.If the plant is cold the fruit will be cold as the water runs through the plant & fruit together.

I've wondered the same thing, there's a fine line I'd say where you actually need the shade and are losing sun energy each condition and even plant is differentt.
I am all for fans all the time even,
my dad doesnt like when I "borrow" the fans from the house though or when I take over more area for melon patch next year for that matter... (whoops)
