Anyway too grow giant watermelon that taste sweet. Good too eat?

Sure, let them mature properly and don't use any systemic insecticides which could leave them toxic. Most Carolina Cross will be fairly good eating melons with some that are exceptional and some that are poor tasting.The thing to remember is that this melon takes a long time to mature and the normal signs of being ripe may not apply to your Carolina Cross melon.

Good point TD! We grew a couple in the 130-140 lb range in our first year and they were very good and sweet. I pretty much had to wait till it stopped increasing in size for a few weeks till I knew it was ripe. By then it should have a dull tint between the stripes on the outside of fruit.

The difficult part of this process is keeping your vine healthy for an extended period of time and that is also one of the keys to growing really large melons.Many growers start off with lots of care and great intentions and then it gets hot and they have lots of things to do and first thing you know you are falling behind on their spray schedule and their patch is becoming over-run with weeds.The vine will then start to decline and there commences the decline in the potential of their giant and good eating fruit.
