Just a tip, you can copy the gpc results and paste them into an excel spreadsheet. This makes it much easier to evaluate all sorts of aspects.

I believe the 251.4 Kent is the 316 Edwards x 350 Kent.
2014 I believe
Grows a big one !

ok,
the 251.0 = 316 Edwards x 350 Kent.
we know what that on can do !

the other one was
251.1 = 239 Leonard X 316 Edwards
may be just as good, its just that i didn't grow it so i have no personal growing knowledge about it.

I grew the 251 Kent 2014 last year big melons.
Vole killed the plant ,so I lost the melon,
Melon was taping 90 lbs at 29 days.
In the end she weighed 86 lbs.
Huge melon though.Barrel shaped, she had a 38 1/2 SS measurement before it went down.My one melon that went the distance had a SS measurement of 37 at 70 days.
Very wide melon.
Strong plant too.

I'm intrested in joining, but probably at the basic rate.
35 isn't it?
What's included with that?
Also, would I be considered a novice?
Last year was my first year, and I didn't have great luck (damn voles ).
One 72 lb melon (220 Brinkley x 251 Kent )
One at 86lbs (251 Kent x 209 Schinicker )
One at 132.8 (209 Schinicker x Open )
Voles got all but the big one and something started chewing on that right before I cut it for the Virginia State fair, thereby disqualifying me.
Would have finished 3rd there.
Damn voles !!!!

Hey ESheel! I used Marks Mixes also this year to grow our 228 lb melon. Also used them to grow 198 and 175 lb melons. Only used them for half of the growing season so I am excited about using them from seed starting to harvest next year. I will be joining with a $95 membership cause the Root Keeper is well worth it!! I think we can greatly improve next year!

I'd like to do that , but 95 bucks is a lot for me right now.
I'm glad to hear you had a good season Charles .
Got your lineup for next year set?

Yes you would be hard pressed to buy all 3 microbal inoculants Trichoderma/endomycorrhizae/Bacillus bacterial spores for 95$. 2 lbs makes 200 gallons.Easier to water in then use dry mixes.plus 2 contests for $95.you can join both melon contests Novice & HH if you haven't grown one over 180 lbs.You must have 2 melons to enter. 1 per contest.

The basic membership gets you 1 contest & seeds.Plus access to the FaceBook hidden page to view How to grow videos.Plus there is a forum to share photos/videos & ask questions.Your paying for the membership & contests & how to instruction. The product is just part of the membership.Without Microbal Inoculants your odds are slim of growing a big fruit of any kind.

If you buy all 3 products separate you will spend a lot more then $95

Right now we are going to grow our 228 Bentley, 267 Edwards, and 296.5 Barber. I'm still trying to decide on the other 3 spots. I would like to grow the 350, 302,295,291,274, and 251 Kent. I would also like to try the 255 Mitchell and Marks 260.5. If I can get my hands on several of the above seeds then I may have to expand the patch a little!LOL

Sounds like I'm going to have to save up for the 95 bucks.
Thanks for all the info Mark.

ESheel, your going to pay $35 to enter the basic contest anyway. So you are really only paying $60 extra to get the 2lb Root Keeper and a 2nd contest! Pretty awesome deal!!

Line up sounds good Charles.
Wish I had more room.
Going to be pushing it with three this year.
Will probably try my 86 pounder for one.
You should try the 251.
The plant grew stronger, and faster than any of the 14 I started.
Out grew 2 older plants, and melon was soooo wide before it went down.
Really think I could've gotten close to 200 if not better with that plant.
I've got 2 seeds left and I'm saving them for good crosses.
