I know it's early and I'm bored.
With some of the auctions out of the way,
What seeds are hitting dirt in your patch this spring ?

As of right now our line up will be our 228 Bentley(the first graft we have ever tried), 229 Edwards, 255 Mitchell, 251 Kent, 302 Kent, and a 290 Mudd. I might even try to squeeze in a 295 Kent if I have room. Good luck to everyone this year. Your grafted plant is looking great EShell! I think I'm going to try to approach graft or top graft mine instead of the hole insertion method.

Well with God,Weather,and germination permitting ,I hope (2) 295.5 kents, (2) 302 kents,(2) 251 kents,(1) 162 mitchell,(1) 208 drum,(1)223 drum, (1) 186 glasgow,(1) 188 nelson and (1) 178 nelson.In addition had to squeeze in (2) hybrid black diamonds and (2) jumbo black diamonds.I have a feeling that the diamonds will get the extra attention,as I feel that they will do well.The above should make the dirt as been germinating a great deal this winter and my rate is near 100 % with the small incubator I bought last fall.What is everyone else feeling? And any suggestions on possible crosses listed above?Both of the nelson plants were from 253 mudd x 316 edwards.Good luck to all.

Well are 223 will see dirt along with are 147 from 2014 it grew are personal best so it's a must. I like the 232 barber a lot both 232s we grew in 14 were very healthy plants late in the year the 296 did well for us last year so I can't rule it out I have found a pair of 199 mudds and have always wanted to grow it I have all of franks 2015 seeds along with several kent seeds my thought on this year is start several different seeds and let them tell me what to plant it's not always the best seed on paper that makes the line up I like to double plant and pick the best one when they start to vine are 147 was a back up plant that was more aggressive when it became time to cull that spot down to one plant was it the best decision to keep it and cut the other plant who knows but it produced are pb and was a problem free plant we can only grow so many plants don't get cought up in genetics to the point that you limit your chances for success and don't over look your own crosses you made them for a reason

Charles - you must have a lot of room !
Lots of potential monsters in Grant,Alabama this year.
You've got quite a collection of seeds with great genetics.
Nothing less than 250 this year right ?
The graft Is doing ok.
Would like to see it flower before the mildew or whatever it is defoliates it.
Pleased with my first attempt though.
Mike-you're just like Charles.Tons of room to plant multiple plants.
If I had all that room I would cross everything !
I would personally plant my melons and use any of the above as a pollinator.
It's already carrying the 316 Edwards and 253 Mudd genetics.
Cross it with say,the 295 Kent and next year plant that seed.
Great genetics on either side.
That's what I'm thinking of doing.
Keep building that genetic family tree.
Just my 2 cents.
I have room for maybe 2 plants,so I'll be choosing from:
272.5K Neptune
272.5E Neptune
220 Kent
251 Kent
208 Steil
193 Mitchell
I know one will be a 255 Mitchell.
I still have a dozen more seeds to choose from,as well as my own.
Decisions,decisions !

I Totally agree.I Will plant 2 or 3 of each and keep strongest most vigorous dozen there is regardless of what is what.As well as a few nice backups.I also plant extras at opposite side of each plants separate spot and then when I feel all is good I cull the weakest plant .That way no harm no foul.

This year growing (1)plant very early on to enter in the local county fair which is held at end of July.To help that situation I am placing my small 10x17 greenhouse over its spot and let it get to max size before i take it down around it.I think germination for that plant should be around March,20th.I normally germinate them April 8th.At least the state fair starts later at first weekend of Sept.

ESheel-- not a whole lot of room but enough for about 6 plants. I would take 250 right now on one melon, DEFINITELY!
Mike, that is a great idea! I will probably start 20 plants for 6 spots. I will plant 2 plants at each spot and keep the strongest plant only. That will leave me several backups.
Jeremy-- Nothing wrong with keeping one a secret. I hope I can grow one this year that I want to tell y'all about.Lol

Missed growing melons last year. Still not 100% sure I will grow at all due to travel conflicts this year but thing are looking better every day for at least being able to grow melons. If one gets planted then all these most likely will.

Brotherdave had a pear shaped one on one plant couple years ago.
I think it might have been a missed cull(?)
It's in his diary from a couple years ago I think.
95 pounds maybe.
That's almost as big as my PB !

Any 165s left brotherdave ?
