How much water do you give a melon a week, and how many times a week. I was told not to water every day.

Do you mulch?
My beds have 25 ft soaker hoses every 18 inches.
I then covered it with pine straw(needles for all you non southerners).
That can help you retain water.
It all really depends on your soil, and climate I suppose.
Stick your finger in the dirt.
If it feels dry up to your first knuckle, water.
I just wouldn't water right up near the stump.
Maybe a foot away,so not to promote rot.
The roots can spread as far as the vines.

Sorta thinkin...which might not be correct...that melons need water every day, a couple times per day at low doses...This advise was given by someone growing in raised beds...so soil, and climate certainly comes into play. Peace, Wayne

How often and how much a grower needs to water his plants depends on his soil drainage and weather conditions. If a grower has a raised bed with a fair amount of sand is his soil, I believe it is nearly impossible for him to over water plant roots. On the other hand, if a grower has mostly clay soil that drains slowly and may even develop standing pools of water, then plant roots may die from lack of oxygen if watered too often and the excess water has no place to go. It is hot and sunny here in east Tennessee right now and my soil is in a raised bed and is sandy and deep so I am watering every day and the soil is not staying too wet. Everyones soil is different so the thing is to determine how much watering is best for your particular situation.
