Planted some giant watermelloms for the first time to try them. I have several right now and just picked an 82 pounder. My question that may sound stupid but are they any good to eat?

I hear they are quite good to eat. Not sure when to pick them though. The usual signs for a regular melon do not apply to these.

usually when they stop growing. But for a healthy melon, around 60-75 days.

ag - this is my son's 2nd year growing and he has a good sized fruit at the moment. we are getting so much rain and heat this summer! the fruit last year was extremely sweet! also, large cube up your watermelon and freeze. this is a great way to use it in water, juices, watermelon chili lime soups, and so much more plus it is really packed with potassium.

They don't have the bright red flesh like a normal melon but they are usually sweet and good to eat.

i had one 5 years ago that weighed 102 lbs and it was deep red and tasted better than the ones from the store but the next year i had one at 155 lbs and still wasn't ripe ? its tough to get a big one to get nice ripe flavor in the northern states.
