First year grower here. I keep hearing talk about a main vine. How do you tell which is the main vine? There seems to be alot of vines coming out of my stumps.

The main vine will be the first vine that comes out of the stump.

Is this the only vine that will produce the biggest watermelon or are secondary's sometimes chosen?

Absolutely not! Ideally, the main vine has the potential to grow the largest melon of any vine on the plant but any finger vine(vines other than the main coming directly off stump) will grow a huge melon as well. The main would be my first choice but more importantly you want a melon with a good shape that is growing at a good pace. Secondaries aren't very desirable unless as a last resort. Good luck!
