So grafters is there a preferred rootstock to graft to?

I have like 3 pounds of C. ficifolia seed, for some reason I have a tough time getting the grafts to take and grow. I have had really good luck with bushel gourd. I think the world record was grown on a shintosa camelforce? Is that right Chris?
