After having poor results this spring with my grafts, I decided to put to use a misting system that I had built to root woody trees and shrubs. Basically it is a mist system that has a propagation valve programmed to go on for a minute every ten minutes during the bright sunlight hours. The mist shuts off once the sun is off the plants. With this technique I obtained 100% grafting success. You can even cut the roots right off the rootstock and they will grow new roots as your melon (scion) attaches itself to it. I used a 50/50 perlite pro mix blend as a medium. Hopefully I will get some pictures up sometime in the next couple of months. Just thought I would share, It is almost impossible to screw up the grafts when you employ the magic of intermittent mist.

the graft fail window that reallllly gets you is day 20-30 of melon ive seen but that should help with the initial grafting process if it doesnt instill disease issues from the high constant water content in the air

The grafts I did were the side cotyledon graft, (as recommended by Nate) and I did Some side approach grafts. Both of these grafts did not heal well for me this spring with just high humidity and shade.
