The 3 I'm pretty sure about are 291 Kent, 283.5 Dawson, and one from Mr. Bright that's a 262 Carson x self. Planning 2 rows of plasticulture plants looking for 6+ lobed female producers. 165(B) & 140.5's

My plan is to grow out a row of Chris' hybrid JBDxCC's, self them all and see what we get. I am hopeful this project will be useful to advance both JBD's and CC's with some new genes.

Not sure yet. I’ll start 8. Narrow it down to the best 2. Best one gets the patch, the other a 20 gallon pot for use as a pollinator. Probably a couple of Kent’s. Couple of Lindley’s. Couple of Cantrell’s. My 180. Have some 272.5 Neptune’s(both crosses). My goal would be Jeremy Lindley’s 213 (239 Leonard x self) x one of brotherdave’s crosses of the 157 Bright x self. In a nutshell,a 239 Leonard x 157 Bright. Or vice versa.

This is what I am looking right now: 305 Mudd, 302 Kent and my 255. I have got to grow it one more time. Would love to see a 260 on it. In the small town I live in ya know most of the people and some how I am now the 260 guy. That all started by some saying ( on my 259 ) if it would just weighed one more pound it would have been 260. So 260 is my goal this year

My competition melons will include: 298 Lindley, 214.5 Lindley, 283 Dawson, 165(b) Cantrell, 238 Bright, and a genetic cross - 350 Kent(wr) X 262 Carson(wr). Jeremy Lindley has volunteered to dress these up for me. Through David Cantrell's diary posts I know what six and eight lobed female flowers look like and have plans to help him in the search for a selfed six-plus lobed melon. My experimental plants will be eighteen of the 140.5 Cantrells grown closely together and which hopefully will come back with at least one eight lobed female. They will be started early enough to grow two selfed generations in one year if something shows. Seeds from the "best in the field" watermelons for 1977. 1979, 1983, and 1985 will be planted for a similar lobe search. Hopefully they will germinate. I may also include a 253 Kent and a 249 Bright to cross pollinate for something long.
