I was culling little melons from my patch the other day and I noticed the smell of bushel gourds coming off the melon plants. Not quite as strong as real bushel gourd plants, but definitely there. (My plants are on lagenaria rootstock) This is the first time I have noticed that. Has anybody else noticed this?

Maybe I moved a couple bushel gourd vines and that was what I was smelling. I have a section of row where there is a caveman's club starting to grow into a melon plant. Chris I think they are really cool looking melons, I am glad you made the cross.

Yesterday I was in the patch, I crushed a watermelon leaf. Smells like melon. Which is good because; I don't really care for the smell of bushel gourds or Ag's for that matter. To my nose the AG's kind of smell like rancid butter or baby puke. I don't know if I can describe the smell of bushel gourd. It's strong!

Both bushel gourds and long gourds smell nasty imo. Ag's aren't much better.
