Will the GPC recognize a melon as a new state record if it is weighed as an exhibition melon? Sorry for all the questions.

Was curious because "if" I take 2 melons (one being an exhibition melon to one site) I was hoping that the smaller would be weighed 1st and actually be considered a possible state record & then have a possible 2nd state record at the same site with the 2nd larger melon. Sounds selfish I know! All based on an 'IF"

Joseph, at a GPC weighoff they will weigh melons in order from the smallest OTT measured melon first to the largest OTT measured melon last.

If you take two melons don't you have to decide ahead of weighing time which one is your official one for the weigh-off and the other is your exhibition no mater if the size is larger or smaller.

Yes you do Bill and like myself most would select the larger/official one to be weighed for competition and not exhibition.

Last year Tony Prochaska took 3 melons to Bloomfield. First was 175# exhibition. Second was new Kansas record 199# exhibition. Third one was another new Kansas record 200#. So it can and does happen.

Interesting timing. I just read one of the NE club sites where the guy took two pumpkins. Maine, I think. The grower picked the wrong one to weigh officially, and his exhibit pumpkin turned out to be the state record. The GPC ruled that the exhibit pumpkin was eligible for the state record, but was not to receive awards or payout money except for the payout for new State record.

Thanks for the new pictures Joseph and for providing me with the answer to my question. I remember reading in your growers diary, this years 1st post, you had a heart attack a few months back. I hope you are well and do not let all the emotion going on here and in the patch affect you health in a negative way. Fun things relax people but sometimes situations where there is a lot of emotions flowing can have a significant negative effect.I think I can speak for everyone on this forum in expressing my wish that you have many good years left as a melon grower.

Col. Fryght, that all sounds like it was by the books. The grower should have entered both for prize eligibility and nothing for exhibition.
