10x10 raised bed going to try few plants at that size and let the vines maybe grow a little more. My thoughts are better dirt no soil compaction and I know were my roots will be and they will get water . what are your thoughts?

That might be a little on the small side as far as growing area per plant but it’s worth experimenting with to see how it goes.

I used sponge gourd as a rootstock on a couple plants, ten x ten would be just about the right size for a melon on a sponge gourd rootstock. Bat Cave Nate had a set up where his melons were on a raised bed and they grew over the side and out onto a landscape fabric weed barrier. Check out his diary from a couple years ago.

I saw Nate's last year 4x32 I think, and Chris has had some plants around 10x15 bed, butt let the vines grow more. Nate had 4 plants in the 4x32 2 right beside each other around 200 pound melons. I think the roots will be fine in a bed that size with the best dirt, fert's , water, and air, microbes, and such
