I yanked 6 of the nastiest rotten tomatoes off my vines last night due to blossom end rot. Will ALL om my maters have this all year long or will it just be the first round due to the watering conditions or calcium they had problems with early season?

We spray our Tomatoes and Green Peppers with Calcium Nitrate. Never had a problem.

The primary cause of blossom end rot is a low pH. Tomatoes prefer a nearly neutral pH. The more acidic the soil is the harder it is for the plant to uptake calcium. Another cause is an application of nitrogen while the fruit are on. Foliar applications of calcium can help some, but the soil needs to be tended to as well.

Sprayed with Epsom salts and dish soap this morning. Not sure why I fogot about all my Jerry Baker recipes, but I did! Picked a nice bowl of maters before I sprayed...yum! Thanks for the advice!

I read once to mix a tablespoon of epsom salts in the soil before setting in the tomato plant. I have done this ever since and have had no more blossem end rot.
