I have seen various lists of world record tomatoes posted here and elsewhere. Does anyone have that list and is anyone certain of the documentation? I am wondering about the top ten tomatoes ever grown and who grew them and how well documented each weight is?

I would think getting it weighed at a weigh-off or a contest where the scales are certified and people are looking. I think something more than just weighing it on your bathroom scales while you are alone in the closet with the door shut and the lights out.

well Lubadub I am the one who compiled the list as for documentation.
I have told you before if you would like the reference I used, they are list in the file section of the yahoo.com giant tomato group.

The world record tomatoes where weighed in contests the
the 4 lbs 5 oz 1974 world was weighed in royal horticultural fair at westminister .
The 1976 world record tomato was enter in contest maybe the sate fair of WI.
The 1986 tomato won $1000 prize in Page seed company's giant tomato contest.

As for proof I suggest you ask guinness they require a lot proof to claim a record.

I went back and reviewed your list. Maria's weight is wrong. It should be 7.315 pounds rather than what you have. Were all of those tomatoes weighed at contests? I know Gordon Graham's tomato weight was challenged but I believe it is well enough documented. Many of the others were weighed either at The Great Tomato Hunt in Canada or the New Jersey Tomato Championships. What about the rest?

the person who challenged gordon grahams record on garden web only did so because they had never seen picture of it.
Which they did not even take the time too look for.
As 8,9 on the list minnie's tomato had a picture of it feature on tomato mania and garden web 2 years ago and ernie peirce show evidence of his acheivement on the now defunct giant veggies 101 yahoo group.

The person also who questioned the graham record tomato had only seen a picture of the mock up used in mircle gro contest. So I don't consider that a challenge just someone who can't be bothered to do research.

Is there a picture of the tomato Ernie grew somewhere? I have not been able to find it. You would think a tomato that big would have its picture on the front page of the local newspaper. I was able to get some Thunder Creek seeds from Ernie but they are not doing well. He said there might be a mix-up in the seeds. I am getting tomatoes and wonder if they look like his? They are still pretty small. I tried to E-mail you privately but the chickenman2 address you have posted is invalid.
