I planted 13 Zac tomato seeds last saturday and 10 came up this thursday. I did not see them come up and some of them are a little leggy. Removed them from my incabator (Cooler and hot water bottles) and placed them near a south facing window to get more Natural lite. They appear to be doing all right I move them to a warm spot at night where the temp is above 65 deg. Right now they have a thin white stem about 2 inches high and two green leaves.-----= John

Hey, if i come over and stand near the south window can i have some more Natural Lite?? shoot i'd take a Bud Lite, Miller Lite, Strohs Lite, you name it I've probably drunk it..

I have eight Zacs left I transplanted them into their final 2 gallon pot Friday. They are huge! About 3/8" thick at the stems and 10 to 12 true leaves. I have been leaving them out in "Mommas" onion greenhouse and it gets a little chilly in there at night 35 degrees was the lowest on the recorder. The Zacs just hunkered down and got bush! I will plant them in their raised 4 x 10 foot bed (under the same cover as the onions) next week.

I transplanted mine from 4" pots to 1 gallon pots yesterday. They are really starting to grow nicely. I put 2 into the onion house just to see how they do this early(actually I was out of big pots). The big zac's look exactly the same as the other 4 varieties that I planted. Not one big of difference in size.
I think I messed up my onions. I transplanted them into gallon pots about 4 weeks ago and since then they haven't done much. When I transplanted them yesterday I found that the roots would not grow into the "compost" that I had used to transplant them into. It was a bought compost and I suspect it was not completed and therefor too hot. I dug out all of the old compost and planted them anyway. I'll see how they do.

Ok, seems nobody here has a sence of humor about my Natural Lite.. i know ya'll got it didnt you?? ok here's my big mater progress report.. my big zacs look pretty sorry.. i have about 10 of them and they are the smallest right now of all my other mater plants.. the early hybreds are about twice the size and all planted on the same day.. who knows maybe slow and steady will win the race again??

My plants I started on March 6th are doing GREAT!!, and the ones I started on March 28th are also doing quite well. I'm constantly adjusting the lighting so I have a thicker plant as opposed to the leggy ones you get when the light is to far away. I'm planning on putting them all out between May 10th & 15th.
And I'm also having good luck with some hot peppers I started inside ( jalapeno, sweet bannana, garden salsa, carribean red & jamican scotch )

Jeff, the bouquet pepper's are also coming along very well ( thanks again)
That's all for now, my post are few & far between right now as work is kinda hectic & confusing at the moment. But I will keep my diary up to date as the season starts.

I think I messed up my Onions as well Brian.
Planted outside 9 days ago intending to put covers on next day,350tons of hardcore turned up that day kept me busy all week,we're into normal planting out time now so i'll leave it at that and concentrate on pumpkins instead.

Hey Gads, plant some of those Borage & Calendula seeds near your 'maters. And those Datura seeds near the pumpkins--not only will the Datura help the pumpkins but them sphinx moths--you'll have less hornworms on your tomatoes.

Thanks Korny, I had a ton of seeds from last years flowers and have allready planted them. On a sad note I left the door open on my green house the other morning on my way to work and all my Zacs froze to death. I had two that I brought in to give away so I am still in the game. I guess it pays to be generous!

Got a question...I posted a pic of some eggs on my tomatoes..I found some horn worms/tobacco worms on my plants yesterday..They eat all foilage and baby tomatoes..Glad I found them when I did..Something just told me to go look at my plants,,and there he was,,turned out to be more like 8 or 9 on 1 plant..I found these eggs this morning..I read somewhere along time ago to leave these eggs,,as they eat these worms I'm speaking of..I need to know if these eggs are producing the worms,,or if they are eating the worms..Do I kill or keep??Thanks....

Jeff, didn't see the pics but if the eggs are actually ON a hornworm, let it live as it is being parasitized by a tiny wasp which the offspring will eat it eventually and lay new eggs on other hornworms.
