I have a question about the Big ZAc tomato. In all my catalogs that sell big zac tomatoes says its a crop failer. So my question is is it really a crop failer if so why and are they worth trying? I appreciate any help!

They mean that their crop for seeds failed this year, so they don't have any to sell. Not that the crop is a failure, if that's what you're asking. I have been wondering why so many companies experienced this this year? AleX Noel.

Wherever they grow the primary seed crop had a bad year one way or another. Hurricane? Early fall frost or late spring frost? the farmer put roundup in the fertilizer tank A horde of tomato eating ducks it could of been anything. It doesnt mean the tomato is a bad one just a bad year.

Big Zac is a hybrid. The only company that has /had rights to it is Totally Tomatoes. They offered it by permission of Mimmie Zacharius. They did not do the cross properly, made the wrong cross or something to that effect. They offered Big Zac in 2005 but customers had very mixed results. They are not advertising that they offer it in 2006 but I heard if you call and request them they will sell them to you. Why would anyone want tomato seed that isn't what they are paying for. Several other companies are offering Big Zac as "saved seed that produces true." Blah Blah Blah! Big Zac is an F1 hybrid and to say that the saved seeds produces true is laughable. In order to dehybridize a tomato variety it would require careful selection for 4-7 years. Buying Big Zac seeds that were gathered after 2004 is a crapshoot at best.

I have a pack of Big Zac Hybrid seeds that were packed for 2005. Are they Good, Bad, or Otherwise? I grew another pack in 2005 and was happy with the results. The largest was just under two pounds for my second year of growing Zac's
