I'm getting ready to order some tomato seeds and was wanting to get some opinions on what the best tasting, best producing tomato. I'm looking for the total package.

For a main crop I like Better Boy: taste is good, disease resistant, very productive, and they don't split after a heavy rain like some will. If you like a mild meaty tomato with few seeds, the pink oxheart is hard to beat.

I like 'Better Boy too. I am sure some of the heirlooms have better taste. You just can't beat the color and shape of the 'Better boy' though. Unfortunately I think people take looks into account when judging a tomato. I used to sell tomatoes and people would always choose the most attractive ones. Also in dry years a vine ripened tomato will be much sweeter than in wet ones. Last year my tomatoes and melons were very sweet.

Better Boy has always been the best for me. I had some really good Giant Belgiums, Lemon Boy, but Better Boy still the best for me. But im still trying others.

Beefmaster best tasting ! & many tomatos with some at 2 lbs with no special care ! for a while id say burpees brandy boy but iv gone back to beefmaster !!

Tomatoheads are pretty much unanimous in Brandywine being great, but those really in the know will tell you to seek out Brandywine Sudduth Strain. It is believed to be the original Brandywine from Ben Quisenberry
s collection. It is easily one of the finest ever. If different color tomatoes are your thing Cherokee Purple, Aunt Gertie's Gold, Lillian's Yellow Heirloom, KBX (Kellogg's Breakfast PL), Green Giant and several others.

PS...DTM...where might one find some seeds..."Brandywine Sudduth Strain"... and would that "Dunkles" Tomato Fortifier stuff work well with those plants??? Peace, Wayne

I enjoy the Cherokee Purple and Brandywine that others have mentioned. Another variety that I've grown in the past is Bloody Butcher. I haven't grown it for several years, but I remember it tasting very good and having a nice combination of the features of beefsteaks and a cherry. You'd probably need two slices on a sandwich, but is very prolific like a cherry. I plan on trying to find it again this year.
